The British will tighten up in the fight against obesity
From April 2022, the United Kingdom will ban advertising campaigns promoting the sale of foods high in fat, sugar or salt. The British government announced it on Monday.
In connection with these foods,
London will ban "buy one and get another for free" advertising campaigns. It will also not be allowed to refill glasses with soft drinks free of charge, Reuters reports.
Rules for placing foods
The measures will specify the places in the shops where it will not be possible to place advertisements for these foods. Promotion of unhealthy products will not be allowed at checkouts, store entrances and at the end of aisles.
Restricting advertising is supposed to ensure that choosing healthier foods is an "easier choice" for British Health Secretary Jo
Churchill, according to Deputy Health Minister.
"Creating an environment that helps everyone eat healthier foods more often is important to improving the health of the country," she said.
Almost two-thirds of adults are overweight
According to the government, obesity has long been one of the biggest problems in the field of public health.
Almost two thirds of adults in England are overweight and one in three children graduating from primary school is overweight or obese.
Britain proposed a restriction on "buy one and get one more for free" ads back in July and also announced measures to ban television and online advertising for fast food before 9 p.m.
Last month, it proposed a total ban on promoting unhealthy foods on the Internet.
