Central Bank of Russia to Hold Extraordinary Meeting
The Central Bank of Russia announced that they will hold an extraordinary meeting on Thursday this week.
The Central Bank of Russia stated that the rate decision will be made at the meeting on Thursday.
In the statement made on the bank's website, it was stated that the interest rate decision will be taken on Thursday at 10:30 Moscow time, but there will be no press conference.
The next official meeting date was June 10. The Central Bank cut the policy rate from 17 percent to 14 percent in April.
After the announcement, the Russian ruble continued its gains, gaining 1% against the dollar and 0.3% against the euro. The currency had recorded its highest level since 2018 in the previous days.
"The extraordinary meeting decision shows that there may be a major rate cut of 100 or 200 basis points," said Sofia Donets of
Renaissance Capital.
