The Chinese company Baidu is considering the production of its own electric vehicles
The Chinese company Baidu is considering the production of its own electric vehicles. Baidu has already discussed this possibility with car manufacturers.
This was stated by three sources familiar with the situation, who did not want to be named. This is another step in the race of technology companies in the development of intelligent cars.
Baidu, a leader in Internet search engines in the Asian country, is already developing autonomous management technology and Internet connection infrastructure.
Recently, Baidu is also considering the production of cars on the basis of a contract, or the creation of a joint venture with car manufacturers, in which he would have a majority.
Thanks to this initiative, he would be one step ahead of his rivals, such as Tencent,
Amazon or Alphabet, who have also developed technology for autonomous vehicles or invested in start-ups focused on intelligent cars.
Baidu has already preliminarily negotiated - without taking any decision - with the Chinese carmakers Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) and China FAW Group on a possible joint venture, sources said.
Baidu declined to comment on the information, and GAC said it had a strategic partnership with Baidu and any further cooperation would be discussed. Geely replied that he knew nothing, FAW did not respond to the request for comment.
