The completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is at stake
The reason is the new American sanctions.
Russia's Gazprom admits that the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is at stake.
Gazprom said, the reason is new US sanctions, which may cause the project to be suspended or canceled.
The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is to transport Russian natural gas across the Baltic Sea to Germany and Western Europe outside the traditional transit routes passing through Ukrainian and Polish territories.
The US imposed sanctions on the Russian ship Fortuna, which is laying a pipeline for the gas pipeline. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it had been informed in advance of the sanctions against the ship and its owner. The Ministry regretted the US government's move.
The US is an outspoken opponent of the
Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Together with Eastern European countries, which are also rejecting the project, the US government claims that it will increase Europe's dependence on Russian energy. The
Kremlin, on the other hand, accuses Washington of trying to stop the project in order to force European customers to buy more expensive American liquefied natural gas.
