The Czech Republic is negotiating with Volkswagen to build a battery plant
The German Volkswagen Group is preparing to invest tens of billions of euros in Europe in the construction of several battery plants. The Czech Minister of Industry and Trade, Karel Havlíček, confirmed to Hospodářské noviny that the government is negotiating with the car manufacturer to establish one of the plants in the Czech Republic.
"We are negotiating intensively about this, it is linked to the ČEZ Gigafactory project, which I consider to be one of the priorities and a key investment in the coming years. We must not miss this opportunity. however, it is an excellent chain, "said Havlíček. As he added for HN, they want to decide this year.
Volkswagen, of which the Czech
Škoda Auto is a part, wants to have a total of six battery plants in the European Union by 2030.
At the end of last week, the group stated that the considered sites include the Czechia, Poland and
Slovakia.
