The European Commission has issued € 14 billion in social bonds
The European Commission (EC) has issued € 14 billion in social bonds under the EU SURE instrument.
They are designed to help protect jobs and people in employment.
In a press release, Ingrid Ludviková from the EC Representation in
Slovakia informed about it.
The
EC has issued two bonds worth ten billion and four billion euros. The mentioned ten billion is due in 2028, the rest in 2050.
There was a high demand for bonds among investors, which enabled the EC to obtain very good price conditions. These are forwarded directly to the Member States of the European Union.
This is the fourth bond issue under the SURE program. Thanks to the first three issues between the end of October and the end of November 2020, 15 Member States under the instrument, received almost € 40 billion in follow-up loans. During this year, the EC will try to raise another 35 billion euros through the issuance of EU SURE bonds.
