The European Commission will support employment after the corona crisis
The European Commission on Thursday set out its ambitions for a strong social Europe, with an emphasis on jobs and skills for the future, as part of an action plan to implement the European Pillar of Social Rights, paving the way for a just, inclusive and resilient recovery from the corona crisis.
The Action Plan sets out concrete measures to implement the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights and proposes the EU's headline targets for employment, skills and social protection by 2030.
The European Commission's recommendation also covers effective active support for employment after the corona crisis (EASE) in order to support economic recovery while creating large numbers of jobs.
In this context, the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, recalled that the European Pillar of Social Rights is the EU's reference point for building a strong social Europe.
"One of our priorities is to create jobs and ensure that people have the right skills for these jobs. That is the goal of EASE. We also have a common obligation to fight poverty in the
EU and create an inclusive society," Schmit said.
He added that EU countries would renew their commitments on social rights at the social summit in
Porto, which is being prepared by the Portuguese presidency of the EU Council in May.
