He announced that the world's first hydrogen-powered flying boat, which can glide one meter above the water's surface, will be built in Dubai next year.
According to the statement, the vehicle, called "Jet", will be powered by two hydrogen fuel cells that do not produce emissions while 'quietly' cruising on the waves.
It was reported that hydrogen fuel cells generate electricity by mixing hydrogen and oxygen in specially machined plates that are joined together to form a larger fuel cell "stack".
In addition, it was announced that wing-like blades will be attached under the body of the Jet, similar to the aerofoils used in airplanes. Thus, as the boat accelerates, the water will be cut off and rise.
It was also stated that the world's first flying boat will have a width of 10 meters and a weight of 6 tons. It will be able to carry the pilot and 12 passengers at a speed of 75 km per hour.
On the other hand, Jet was designed in partnership with Switzerland-based start-up THE JET ZeroEmission and Zenith Marine Services operating in the UAE. Dubai will host the vehicle's first test drive in November 2023, to coincide with next year's United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28.
The JET ZeroEmission was founded by French yachtsman Alain Thébault and managed to secure part of the €10m (£8.3m) financing required as part of the deal.
Thébault said, "We are delighted to make this announcement from Dubai and to manufacture and launch the Jet, which will be the world's first emission-free cruise boat capable of flying 80 cm above the water. Dubai is an ideal destination for entrepreneurs and companies from around the world to develop their innovative projects and achieve the success they desire. We look forward to meeting with those interested in this magnificent flying boat at the 28th International Climate Summit (COP28) to be hosted by the UAE."
