The head of the IATA will resign in March next year
The head of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Alexandre de Juniac, will resign in March next year.
This was stated by the association in a press release. He will be replaced by Willie Walsh, former head of IAG, the parent company of British Airways.
"It has not been easy," Juniac said of his decision at a time when the new
coronavirus pandemic had strengthened the importance of IATA as the voice of global aviation.
"However, the building blocks for the recovery of the sector have already been laid. Now is the right time to hand over to IATA management to allow the long recovery process to begin," the DPA quoted Juniac as saying.
Alexandre de Juniac has led
IATA since September 2016, having previously headed Air France-KLM. He announced his intention to end office several months ago.
Walsh resigned as head of the IAG in March this year and originally planned to retire.
He will be officially elected IATA chief by IATA members at their general meeting, which will be held online for the pandemic.
