The lack of chips also affected the Czech Toyota plant
The Czech Toyota plant has to temporarily stop the production of passenger cars due to a lack of chips.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic in Kolín will stop production for two weeks from Monday, a plant spokesman confirmed to the German DPA agency. The reason is the shortage of semiconductors caused by the disruption of supplies from North America, which was caused by extremely cold weather.
The lack of chips for cars has recently caused problems for other carmakers, such as Volkswagen and Daimler.
Toyota manufactures a small Toyota Aygo car in its Czech plant, which employs approximately 2,500 people. A slightly larger Yaris model should be added to it later this year. The group therefore plans to invest around 150 million euros in the plant.
The Czech Toyota plant in
Kolín was established in 2002 as a joint venture with Peugeot and Citroën. At the beginning of the year, it was completely taken over by a Japanese concern.
