The maid organization in Spain is fighting against hotels
Tourists booking a hotel in Spain will soon be able to choose not only between the room with the best sea view or the hotel with the largest swimming pool, but also according to how satisfied its staff is with their work. The Spanish maid organization Las Kellys is fighting against the trend of hotels to hire their staff from agencies and then pay women as little as possible. That's why it now comes with an application, thanks to which guests will see and rate this averted face of hotels. The British daily The Guardian came with information.
In the past, the organization of maids has tried to recommend the criterion where the hotel guest would evaluate the working conditions of its employees to accommodation platforms such as Booking.com or
TripAdvisor, but it has not met with success.
Only last week, however, it succeeded in a mass-funded so-called cowdfunding campaign and managed to raise a minimum amount of 60,000 euros to launch websites and
mobile applications that would point out the reality of Spanish hotel facilities. Las Kelys now aims to raise 90,000 euros.
"We want to start a new era of tourism in which the working conditions of employees and humanity will finally be elevated above economic interests," said Vania Arana, a spokeswoman for Las Kelys.
In order for the hotel to meet the criteria required by the organization, it must respect the Spanish agreement on wages and conditions, comply with health and safety regulations, adhere to a policy of equal pay and employ people with disabilities, as well as have its own maids.
