The Mood Of German Consumers Deteriorated More Than Expected
The mood of German consumers deteriorated more than expected. The reason is a new wave of the new coronavirus pandemic.
The leading consumer confidence index of the consulting firm GfK for November fell to -3.1 points from -1.7 points in October. Economists expected the index to fall to only -2.8 points. In October, all three components of the index deteriorated, ie the indicator of economic as well as income expectations and the indicator of willingness to buy.
The economic sentiment index fell by 17 points to 7.1 points in October after five consecutive increases. Consumers fear that the rapid spread of the disease will slow the recovery of the economy.
The deterioration in the outlook for the economy has also affected revenue expectations. The index of income expectations fell by 6.3 points to 9.8 points. And the willingness to buy index fell by 1.4 points to 37 points.
