The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is in danger of failing to be certified upon completion
The Norwegian company Det Norske Veritas GL (DNV GL), which was to certify the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline after the completion of its construction, refused to provide this service due to the threat of US sanctions. Sanctions were approved by the US Congress as part of the adoption of a military budget.
DNV GL will not issue a certificate of conformity for the
Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which is being built by Gazprom's subsidiary. Without such a certificate, it is impossible to start the operation of the gas pipeline. The BusinessCensor portal informs about it.
US sanctions, which came into force on January 1 with the approval of the US defense budget in Congress, prohibit foreign companies from providing Nord Stream 2 pipeline testing, inspection and certification services. They have 30 days to leave the project, otherwise they will be subject to US sanctions.
"DNV GL will stop all activities aimed at inspecting the Nord Stream 2 pipeline system in accordance with the sanctions as long as these sanctions remain in force. We are implementing a plan to phase out project support," the portal quoted the Norwegian company as saying.
Det Norske Veritas GL is a partner of the
Nord Stream gas pipeline in operation and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline under construction. The company has been certifying the operated Nord Stream gas pipeline every year since 2012.
