The number of passengers at Heathrow Airport fell sharply in March as well
The number of passengers at London Heathrow Airport fell sharply in March 2021. The reason is the pandemic of the new coronavirus and the associated travel restrictions that have hit air traffic hard.
In particular, the number of passengers at
Britain's largest airport fell by 83% in March 2021 compared to the same month last year, when the first strict lockdown was introduced.
However, air traffic in the UK is already shining for better times. Thanks to the vaccination of more than half of the adult population with at least the first dose of the
COVID-19 vaccine, anti-pandemic measures in the country are beginning to be alleviated.
From Monday, shops, hairdressers, outdoor pubs and restaurants, gyms, libraries, community centers and most outdoor facilities and attractions such as zoos, theme parks and car cinemas can reopen in Britain. An overnight stay away from home will also be allowed.
Airlines hope that air transport will bounce back from the bottom at the end of May. The government has announced a more significant easing of measures since May 17, although Prime Minister Boris Johnson also warned that due to the pandemic and the state of vaccinations in other countries, it is too early to book foreign holidays until the "situation clears up".
