The Scottish National Party is seeking compensation from Johnson for damages after Brexit

The Scottish National Party has called on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to pay Edinburgh billions of pounds to compensate for the rising costs and difficulties of delivering to and from the European Union following the completion of Brexit. Brexit has negatively affected ties between different parts of the UK. While England and Wales voted to leave the EU, London, Scotland and Northern Ireland were in favor of staying on the bloc. The party, which wants independence for Scotland and is pushing for a second referendum, said Scottish fishermen were facing serious problems due to Brexit. Ian Blackford, the party's leader in the British Parliament, said Johnson's Conservatives must therefore "apologize to Scottish firms and Scotland to pay compensation for the long-term damage caused by Brexit to the Scottish economy. He added that the severance of ties with the EU would bring trade losses to Scotland and negatively affect the economy. Blackford called Brexit "an unnecessary act of economic vandalism caused against the will of Scotland." "The UK government must now provide Scotland with an urgent multibillion-dollar compensation package to mitigate the lasting damage that Brexit has caused to Scottish companies, industry and communities," he said. Many Scottish fishermen stopped exporting to EU markets last week as bureaucracy after Brexit extended their delivery times and increased export costs. They are not as able to deliver crawfish, mussels and other goods to French stores in one day as in the past. Fishermen across Britain have accused Prime Minister Boris Johnson of treason because he has previously pledged to take control of British waters. But in the end, he has gained relatively little new control over water and little access to EU customer markets, many of which are desperate. In a referendum in 2014, the Scots voted against independence from Britain by 55% to 45%. But Brexit and the government's move in London during the COVID-19 crisis have strengthened support for independence. Most surveys show that Scots are now in favor of secession. In the 2016 Brexit referendum, Scotland voted 62:38 to stay in the EU, while the United Kingdom as a whole voted 52:48 to leave the bloc.
