The efforts of the
USA to prevent the completion of the North Stream 2 natural gas pipeline project are ongoing. US Energy Minister Dan Brouillette has suggested that
Northern Stream 2, which will carry Russian gas over the Baltic Sea to Germany, will not be completed and signaled that they will increase their pressure on the project.
Following the new sanctions that the U.S. announced in December 2019 for the companies involved in the project, the Swiss-Dutch partnership
Allseas company stopped the submarine pipeline laying in North Stream 2. Upon this development,
Russia had sent a ship of its own to the region.
The threat to Russian Gas from the USA!
Answering questions during the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Brouillette claimed that Russia could not complete the project because it did not have this technology.
With an annual gas carrying capacity of 55 billion cubic meters, Russia aims to maintain its weight in the European gas market. The USA wants EU countries to prefer US gas (liquefied natural gas-
LNG) instead of Russian gas.
6.3 billion dollars have been spent so far under the project.
