The UK called on the EU to make changes to the post-Brexit agreement

On Wednesday, the British government called on the European Union to make changes to the post -Brexit agreement on exports of goods between Northern Ireland and the rest of Britain. This was reported by the BBC on its website. British Brexit negotiator David Frost said the post-Brexit agreement in its current form could not be fully implemented because of the threat of unrest and could also damage trade. The British government has concerns about exports of chilled meat products, the BBC recalls. Frost called on the European Union to change its position. The EU prohibits the import of chilled meat products, including minced meat and sausages, from third countries. London and Brussels agreed in December last year on a six-month withdrawal period and later agreed to extend it until the end of September this year. Then the export of chilled meat products from Britain to Northern Ireland will be prevented, the BBC recalls. According to Frost, the EU should "reach an agreement quickly" in order to prevent such a situation and to introduce border controls on goods arriving in Northern Ireland from other parts of Britain. The Pobrexit Agreement includes a Protocol on Ireland / Northern Ireland to prevent border controls between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. Article 16 of this Protocol makes it possible, in exceptional and crisis situations, to unilaterally restrict exports of goods from the EU to Northern Ireland. However, according to Frost, Britain will not activate Article 16 before it has held talks with Brussels. The European Commission on Wednesday ruled out renegotiating trade agreements for Northern Ireland after Brexit. This is stated in a statement by Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission, quoted by AFP. "The European Union is ready to continue to look for creative solutions under the protocol (on Ireland and Northern Ireland)," Šefčovič said in a statement. At the same time, however, he added that "we will not agree to renegotiate (agreement)".
