The United Kingdom plans to end fossil fuel heating by 2035
The United Kingdom unveiled on Tuesday a plan to end fossil fuel household heating by 2035.
After 2035, no new gas boilers will be installed and from next year, households will be able to receive £ 5,000 in grants to replace gas boilers with low-carbon heat pumps.
At a global investment summit in London, Prime Minister
Boris Johnson also said that private sector investment and consumer pressure are key to reducing carbon emissions and controlling climate change.
"I can provide billions," Johnson said in a room full of CEOs of various companies and other executives. "But all of you in this room can provide trillions. And the market will turn green, "Johnson added.
The British government wants to get tens or hundreds of billions of pounds of investment from the private sector and set aside a similar amount for green energy programs in the United Kingdom.
This money should finance the development of four key green technology areas in Britain: green
hydrogen, long-term storage of renewable but intermittent energy sources such as wind and solar, sustainable aviation fuels and direct carbon capture from the air.
Johnson is expected to welcome world leaders to the United Nations (UN) Climate Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 31st. He argues that Britain should lead the world in the process of decarbonisation because it is the cradle of the industrial revolution. According to him, rich countries must help the poorer ones to reduce carbon emissions by financing green technologies.
