The United States Is Introducing New Tariffs On Imports Of Aluminum
The United States has announced that it is introducing new tariffs on imports of aluminum sheets from nearly two dozen countries in the amount of about $ 2 billion. This was announced on Friday by the US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, citing the reason that the products are imported into the US at dumped prices.
The United States has imposed tariffs on products from a total of 18 countries, including Germany, Spain and Italy, with products worth $ 1.96 billion (€ 1.66 billion). As Ross told Fox Business Network, tariffs are being imposed by the United States with immediate effect, even though the ministry's decision on dumping is only preliminary. According to him, the final decision will be made by the US Commission on International Trade in February next year.
In addition to Germany, Spain and Italy, tariffs also cover Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Romania, Egypt, Turkey, India, Indonesia, Oman, South Korea, Brazil, South Africa, Bahrain and Taiwan.
China is not on the list. As Ross said, tariffs on Chinese aluminum products have already been introduced by the United States. The highest tariffs will apply to Germany, from 52% to 132%, Ross said. It is followed by Bahrain with single-digit tariffs. He added that increasing consumption of certain products in the US due to the pandemic of a new coronavirus, such as ships or motor homes, has increased the importance of aluminum sheet prices.
