The US stock market has strengthened
The technology sector and smaller companies contributed the most to the growth.
The US stock market strengthened on Monday. The S&P 500 index achieved the highest daily increase in nine months.
Investors were encouraged by the report of declining yields on 10-year Federal Treasury bonds after reaching more than an annual high last week.
Higher interest rates may slow the economy and reduce demand for stocks and new loans.
Real estate and tech were the two worst-performing industries, with a loss of more than 1% each. Slight gains in commodities and consumer staples have given some cushion to the wider market.
Washington remains in the spotlight at a time when a package of economic stimuli, already approved by the House of Representatives, is heading for the Senate. The technology sector and smaller companies contributed the most to the growth.

Dow Jones by 2% to 31,535.51 points and the
Nasdaq by 3% to 13,588.83 points.
