The USA: National security concerns about TikTok
TikTok is popular music and video app in the United States - but maybe more. TikTok is part of the Chinese internet company Bytedance. But all Chinese companies are committed to the Chinese Communist Party.
The US House of Representatives voted to ban federal employees from downloading TikTok on government devices. 336 MPs were in for  71 against. The Senate is expected to pass a similar law later this week. National security concerns about TikTok, which belongs to the Chinese technology giant ByteDance , are growing. It is feared that if the app is used; personal user data could fall into the hands of the Chinese regime in order to use it for a cyber attack against the United States. Leading White House officials are considering an even more extensive ban on Chinese apps. On the other hand; on July 21 TikTok said it plans to create 10,000 jobs in the United States over the next three years. The company currently has only about 1,400 employees in the country. The TikTok app has sparked widespread controversy as US-China relations become too bad. The Trump administration accuses the platform of being a means by which the Chinese government can access US customer data.

ByteDance; the Beijing-based company owned by TikTok

A group of US technology investors could try to acquire a majority stake in the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok to neutralize national security concerns related to the video-sharing application. A small number of investors; particularly venture capital firms General Atlantic and Sequoia Capital;  are currently involved in talks with U.S. regulators about the acquisition of the social media company; according to reports from The Information and the Financial Times on Thursday. It is currently unknown what price investors would be willing to pay. ByteDance; the Beijing-based company owned by TikTok; was valued at $ 75 billion in 2018; but TikTok itself is not considered profitable. You might also be interested in:
