The Wait on the Suez Canal Is Over
The wait on the Suez Canal is over. Sea traffic in Suez has returned to its original state.
Egypt announced that all ships waiting due to the accident passed through the
Suez Canal. In his written statement published in the Egyptian state's El-Ehram newspaper, Osama Rabi, the head of the Suez Canal Administration, stated that a total of 422 ships had accumulated on the northern and southern sides of the Canal during the 6 days during which the rescue efforts of the cargo ship that had crashed and landed on the Suez Canal.
Stating that the passage of many ships waiting on both sides of the Channel was completed in record time, Rabi noted that the passage of all the ships accumulated since the accident was completed with the passing of the last 61 ships.
What Happened?
The giant container ship "The Ever Given" crashed into the shore in the
Suez Canal on March 24, as a result of the drop in visibility due to sandstorm and bad weather conditions. With the ship squeezing in the channel and closing the passage way, long ship queues were formed on both sides of the channel and there were disruptions in crude oil and LNG shipments due to the cessation of sea traffic.
