The NFT of the world's first text message (SMS) will be auctioned, according to Vodafone. The proceeds of the sale will be donated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
On December 3, 1992, the first 'Merry Christmas' message was delivered over the Vodafone network. The auction will be held in France at the Aguttes Auction House. Ethereum will be used to do the transaction.
"We are happy to integrate a great technology invention from our history with the greatest technology of today to help individuals who need support," stated Vodafone UK CEO Ahmed Essam. The spirit of 'We Can Do It Together' is embodied in this initiative.
In a statement from Vodafone, it was stated that the winner of the auction will be given a detailed copy of NFT's original communication protocol.
The person who has the NFT of the first SMS will be able to prove their ownership on the blockchain.
