There has been a record increase in cyber attacks in Europe
The Check Point Research research team recorded a record increase in cyber attacks in Europe. Aggressive malware is adding to the increase in cyber attacks and threats.
In the EMEA region (Europe,
Middle East and Africa), the weekly average of attacks per organization was 780 in May, compared to 643 at the beginning of the year. In comparison, the researchers said that in America, there were an average of 671 attacks per organization per week, compared with 589 attacks from the beginning of the year.
"In May, we recorded a year-on-year increase in cyber attacks on organizations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa by up to 97 percent," said Andrej Aleksiev, director of the Slovak branch of the company.
Just in May, the number of malware attacks on devices connected to the Internet increased by 144 percent and attacks on mobile devices increased by 41 percent.
The month of May brought a wave of botnet attacks to Slovakia. "These attacks, with a history of more than two decades, are effectively simplicity and brutality. They will overwhelm systems that become inaccessible or collapse under the onslaught of demands," experts explained.
According to the current Global Threat Index, the most common type of malicious software in the world was the modular botnet and bank trojan Trickbot, which also affected more than five percent of organizations in
Slovakia.
Trickbot targets the Windows platform and is distributed through a spam mail campaign. It controls the victim's computer, steals bank credentials, installs malware, and allows you to compromise other elements of the infrastructure. This creates room for a ransomware attack.
Organizations of all sizes are being bombarded with global multi-vector fifth-generation cyber threats. It is critical that most companies are maximally secured against third-generation threats that exploit application vulnerabilities.
According to researchers, stopping the cyber attack pandemic will require the cooperation of governments, cyber security companies and the organizations themselves.
