TikTok Announced it will Appoint a Representative to Turkey
TikTok, has announced that it will appoint a representative to Turkey. After BMI and YouTube, TikTok will also have a representative in Turkey.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ömer Fatih Sayan, shared the subject on his Twitter account. Sayan used the following statements in his post:
“As a result of our talks today after VK and YouTube, TikTok has announced that it will appoint a representative. Our hope is that other
social network providers will also report their representatives as soon as possible and fulfill their obligations.”
The Law No. 7253 "Amending the Law on Regulating Broadcasts on the Internet and Combating Crimes Committed Through These Broadcasts", also known as the "Social Media Law", entered into force as of October 1.
Within the framework of this law, obligations to appoint, identifying and reporting representatives had been brought to the social media companies that have a foreign origin and has a daily access over 1 million in Turkey, and time was given until November 2.
During the period in question, the world's most widely used social network providers VK and
Youtube appointed their representative to Turkey and informed the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA).
