Trade Agreement Between EU and UK Has Been Approved

The trade agreement between the EU and the UK has been approved. Parliament approved the agreement that will determine post-Brexit trade relations.

In the European Parliament (EP) General Assembly session held in Brussels, the trade and cooperation agreement between the EU (European Union) and the UK was discussed. EP MPs accepted the agreement that will determine future economic and commercial relations between the EU and Britain with 660 "Yes", 5 "No" and 32 "Abstentions" votes. According to the agreement, customs duty and quota will not be applied to goods that comply with the EU and UK rules of origin. The parties will protect the environment and give priority to the fight against climate change. Social rights and workers' rights will be protected. With a binding dispute resolution mechanism, competition will be realized under fair and equal conditions. Fish stocks in EU and UK territorial waters will be managed jointly. England will be able to develop fishing activities. European fishermen activities will continue. The parties will compete fairly in the field of transport. Social security rights of EU and UK citizens will be coordinated. Especially against cross-border crime and terrorism, a security and judicial cooperation framework will be established. By establishing a joint council between the EU and the UK, it will be determined how the agreement will be interpreted and implemented. In the United Kingdom, which consists of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, the Brexit decision was taken with 52 percent against 48 percent in the EU referendum held in June 2016.
