Turkey Made Half of Its Tea Exports from Rize Turkey made half of its tea exports from Rize. Rize alone has nearly 50 percent of the tea exports of Turkey. According to the information obtained from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKIB) data, Turkey’s tea exports were 15 million 452 thousand 479 dollars exported tea in January-November period. Rize alone made 49.5 percent of the total tea exports with a share of 7 million 652 thousand 492 dollars of this amount. During the period in question, 2 thousand 597 tons of tea were sold from Rize. In the same period of the previous year, 7 million 180 thousand 187 dollars were earned from Rize's export of 2 thousand 456 tons of tea. According to these data, tea exports from Rize increased by 6 percent in quantity and 7 percent in value compared to the same period last year. Belgium, the USA and the Netherlands are among the countries that imported the most tea from the city. During the period in question, 4 million 488 thousand 181 dollars of tea was exported from Rize to Belgium, 705 thousand 755 to the USA, and 489 thousand 501 dollars to the Netherlands. Also, during this period, tea was exported to Switzerland, Qatar, North Macedonia, Japan, Malta, Panama, Tajikistan and Taiwan, which were not exported in the same period last year. Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of DKIB, spoke to the AA correspondent. Pointing out that Rize is the province where the most tea is exported, Gürdoğan stated that the tea exports made from the city in 11 months of the year correspond to approximately 50 percent of the total country exports. Stating that the income from tea exports is pleasing, Gürdoğan said: “It is important that tea production made from Rize, the homeland of tea, becomes more exportable and that our tea producer companies develop new value-added products by doing R&D.”
