Turkey’s Electricity Consumption Increased
Turkey’s electricity consumption increased. Electricity consumption was 26 billion 891 million 436 thousand kilowatt-hours in January.
According to the data obtained from the
Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the highest daily electricity consumption in Turkey last month was 959 million 62 thousand kilowatt-hours on January 20, while the lowest consumption was on January 1 with 695 million 974 thousand kilowatt-hours.
Electricity consumption increased by 0.62 percent in January compared to the same month of 2020 and reached 26 billion 891 million 436 thousand kilowatt hours, while production increased by 0.61 percent reaching 26 billion 990 million 30 thousand kilowatt-hours.
Due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic, most of the time was spent in homes and the increase in energy demand in the industrial sector were the biggest factors in the increase of electricity consumption.
15.9 percent of the electricity
production was obtained from hydroelectric power plants, 30.5 percent from natural gas power plants and 20.3 percent from imported coal plants. The share of wind energy in production was recorded as 10.62 percent and the share of domestic coal power plants as 14.6 percent. The remaining part was obtained from geothermal, solar, fuel oil and biomass resources.
Decrease in Electricity Imports
In this period, Turkey’s electricity imports decreased by 48.25 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and decreased from 126 million 834 thousand kilowatt-hours to 65 million 624 thousand kilowatt-hours.
In the said period, electricity exports decreased by 27.78 percent and became 164 million 259 thousand kilowatt-hours. In January 2020, 227 million 460 thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity was exported.
