TURKSTAT Announced The Unemployment Statistics
TURKSTAT has announced the unemployment statistics. In Turkey, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 percent.
According to the unemployment statistics announced by the
Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over across Turkey was 4 million 61 thousand people in 2020, with a decrease of 408 thousand people compared to the previous year. The unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 13.2 percent. Non-agricultural unemployment rate was recorded as 15.3 percent with a 0.7 percentage point decrease.
The number of employed people decreased by 1 million 268 thousand people to 26 million 812 thousand people in 2020 compared to the previous year, and the employment rate was recorded as 42.8 percent with a 2.9 percentage point decrease.
Labor Force Participation Rate
The workforce decreased by 1 million 676 thousand people to 30 million 873 thousand people in 2020 compared to the previous year, and the labor force participation rate was recorded as 49.3 percent with a 3.7 percentage point decrease.
Youth Unemployment Rate
In the 15-64 age group, the
unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 points compared to the previous year to 13.4 percent, and the non-agricultural unemployment rate decreased by 0.7 points to 15.4 percent. Employment rate in this age group was recorded as 47.5 percent with a 2.8 percentage point decrease, and the labor force participation rate as 54.9 percent with a 3.6 percentage point decrease.
While the youth unemployment rate was 25.3 percent, the employment rate was 29.2 percent. The unemployment rate of the young population, which includes the 15-24 age group, was recorded as 25.3 percent with a 0.1 percentage point decrease compared to the previous year, and the employment rate as 29.2 percent with a 3.9 percentage point decrease. In the same period, the labor force participation rate decreased by 5.3 points to 39.1 percent. The rate of those who were neither in education nor in employment was at the level of 28.3 percent, with an increase of 2.3 points compared to the previous year.
