Twitter’s CEO Stands Behind Trump Decision
Twitter’s CEO stands behind the Trump decision.
Twitter's founder Jack Dorsey said that the decision to close US President Donald Trump's account was correct.
Making a statement on his Twitter account, Dorsey argued that they were not proud that Trump was denied access to his account, but believed that this decision was the right decision for Twitter.
Dorsey also pointed out that they warned that a transaction will be made regarding Trump's account, and emphasized that Trump continued to encourage his supporters to raid the Congress building and send worrying messages, and these actions created an "extraordinary and untenable situation" for public safety.
Stating that, with some exceptions, closing an account on Twitter meant a failure to encourage a "healthy conversation," Twitter CEO said, “We faced an extraordinary situation and we should have focused on public safety. The offline damage as a result of the online conversation is obvious.” Dorsey also stated that he is aware of the power of Twitter and that those who violate their rules may prefer other platforms.
Noting that Twitter was not alone in its decision to close the account, Dorsey stated that platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Youtube found Trump's statements dangerous and worrying and made similar moves.
After Facebook and Instagram, the social media companies that closed Trump's account indefinitely, Twitter took a similar step and suspended
Donald Trump's account indefinitely on the grounds that it "sparked the violence".
While the political crisis that broke out after the US Congress was attacked by Trump supporters on January 6 continues, calls for Trump's resignation, dismissal or second dismissal continue.
