UN said that former Nissan chief had been wrongfully detained in Japan

A working group on human rights issues working with the United Nations (UN) said that former Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn had been wrongfully detained in Japan and was demanding compensation and other compensation from the Japanese government. They noted in the opinion that Ghosn's previous arrest was an "arbitrary" move by the Japanese authorities. It called on the Japanese government to "take the necessary steps without delay to remedy the situation concerning Carlos Ghosn". At the same time, a five-member working group of independent experts calls on Japan to ensure a "full and independent investigation" into Ghosn's detention. It called on the local government to take "appropriate measures against those responsible for violating its rights". Ghosn drove Nissan for two decades and saved the carmaker from impending bankruptcy. The company said in a recent report that Ghosn had misused the company's assets for personal gain. The Brazilian allegedly spent $ 27 million of the company's funds to buy its own real estate in Beirut and Rio de Janeiro, misused a corporate plane and donated $ 2 million to universities in Lebanon, where he resorted to bail. However, Ghosn denies the wrongdoing and accused Nissan and Japanese officials of conspiracy. The mentioned working group for solving human rights issues was established almost 30 years ago. However, its views are not binding on national governments.
