Uncertainty Continues in Brexit Trade Deal
Uncertainty continues in the
Brexit trade deal. In the negotiations that lasted for 9 months, the European Union had not accepted the UK's proposal for a solution to the fishing problem.
The negotiations between the UK and the European Union (EU), which have been going on for 9 months, are at a stalemate again. The trade agreement between the two sides remains uncertain.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held several phone calls Monday and Tuesday in order to compromise before entering the new year.
As negotiators continue to discuss the disputes, EU Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier said both sides are ready to make the final touch.
The ongoing negotiations on the trade agreement revolve around the issue of EU boats access to British territorial waters and the EU's ability to impose a possible retaliation tariff if the UK blocks this access.
Speaking to representatives of the 27 EU member states on Tuesday, Barnier stated that the talks are progressing and if the UK makes concessions on fishing, the deal could take place before Christmas.
