US Indices Started the Day with a Decrease
US indices started the day with a decrease. The uncertainty created by stocks such as GameStop was reflected in the indices as a decrease.
At the beginning of the day, the Dow Jones index lost its value over 100 points and was traded at 30.429.29 points, decreasing 0.57 percent. While the S&P 500 index fell 0.55 percent to 3,766.50 points, the Nasdaq index fell 0.36 percent to 13,289.64 points.
It was announced that the coronavirus vaccine candidate of the US-based pharmaceutical company Johnson&Johnson was 66 percent successful in preventing the disease. While early results of stage three clinical trials showed that the vaccine's effectiveness was low, this situation had a negative impact on the markets.
On the other hand, it has been reported that success of nearly 90 percent has been achieved in the third phase vaccine studies conducted by Novadax, a US-based pharmaceutical company in England.
In addition to the developments regarding coronavirus vaccines, small investors in some trading platforms in the USA invested large amounts in low-value shares of hedge funds and cause the prices to jump, trading platforms, regulations on stock markets and discussions on short selling transactions also dominated the agenda.
While
GameStop has increased by more than 1000 percent in the last two weeks, there has been a noticeable increase in the shares of phone manufacturers Nokia and BlackBerry and movie chain AMC.
Robinhood and Interactive Brokers, stock trading platforms, put restrictions on taking new positions in the shares of GameStop and similar companies yesterday, Robinhood announced in a statement yesterday evening that they are planning to allow limited purchases of shares such as GameStop as of today and will continue to monitor the situation.
