The
US Department of Labor has released the weekly data on unemployment benefits.
The number of applicants for unemployment benefits in the USA fell to 793 thousand for the first time in the week ending February 6, but it was still above expectations.
According to the announced data, the number of people who requested unemployment benefits for the first time in the country decreased by 19 thousand people in the week ending February 6 compared to the previous week and was recorded as 793 thousand.
It was estimated that the said data, which was in contrary to the market expectation by recording a limited regression, would be around 757 thousand.
Accordingly, the data of the previous week regarding the number of unemployment benefit applications was revised from 779 thousand to 812 thousand. As of last week, 4-week average unemployment benefit applications decreased by 33,500 compared to the previous week and reached 823 thousand.
Continuing unemployment applications decreased by 145 thousand compared to the previous week and recorded as 4 million 545 thousand in the week ending January 23.
Analysts stated that although weekly
unemployment benefits have decreased in recent weeks, they are well above the levels before the coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic, due to the slowdown in employment recovery and lack of financial support.
