USA is putting pressure on Taiwanese
chip manufacturers. The US Department of Commerce is pressuring semiconductor maker Taiwan Semicanductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and other Taiwanese firms to prioritize US automotive companies experiencing a chip crisis.
US Minister of Commerce Gina Raimondo made a statement on the subject and stated that the Ministry had negotiated with Taiwan-based companies to give priority to US automotive companies that are experiencing chip shortages.
Raimondo said, "We are in talks for Taiwanese companies and TSMC to prioritize our car companies." Raimondo underlined that the medium and long-term solution is to produce more chips in the United States, and drew attention to the need to increase investments for semiconductor production in the country.
Speaking to Reuters, semiconductor manufacturer TSMC stated that they are working with all parties to solve the chip crisis that causes problems in the automotive industry on a global scale.
Making a statement last month, C. C. Wei, the CEO of the company, said that they have been working with their customers since January to support the industry and increase the capacity, but the chip crisis has become inextricable due to the snow storm in Texas and the difficulties in the manufacturing industry in Japan.
The US Department of Commerce is expected to hold a high-level meeting with automakers next week to discuss the chip crisis.
