US President Donald Trump, has signed the package of measures which included sanctions to Turkey, brought the flurry of CAATS laws that impose sanctions by US. Although no official statement has yet been made from the US front, TL assets depreciated in the first half of the day.
On the other hand, statements came after the EU's summit held yesterday that a decision to impose sanctions on individuals and institutions, which was not final, and that developments would be followed until March. The statements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President Erdogan relieved the market. Erdogan stated that this is a process of dialogue in which Turkey is right to clarify the solution, while noting that there won’t be a decision on sanctions from the summit in March. Stating that the sanctions are unacceptable regarding the US, Erdogan said he hoped both
Trump and Biden would act with common sense.
The dollar / TL exchange rate, which started the day with an increase, exceeded the level of 8.02 in the first half of the day. Following the statements, the dollar fell to 7.88 levels. In addition, Euro / TL rate decreased from 9.73 to 9.56. BIST 100 index started to rise again in Borsa Istanbul.
With a short time to the end of the last trading day of the week, TL assets regained their lost value.
