Varta will supply batteries for Porsche
The Swabian battery manufacturer Varta will in future be supplying the sports car manufacturer Porsche with high-performance batteries. This is reported by the "Handelsblatt" in advance, citing Varta. According to the newspaper, Porsche said that the VW subsidiary could work with two or more battery suppliers, depending on the characteristics of different vehicle or development projects. This depends on which partner has the best expertise for a particular project. With which partners which projects would be realized, Porsche wants to announce in due time.
According to "Handelsblatt" the so-called V4Drive battery from Varta could be used in the Taycan model or the iconic 911 sports car. Varta announced in the spring that it wanted to manufacture cells for electromobility in the future. The new product with the name V4Drive is to be produced on a pilot line at the company's headquarters in Ellwangen by the end of the year. The
lithium-ion round cell can be fully charged in just six minutes and should still be efficient even at extremely low temperatures
Porsche only announced on Sunday that it would start developing and manufacturing high-performance battery cells for
electric cars. The sports car manufacturer is setting up a joint venture with the cell specialist Customcells from Itzehoe and Tübingen. According to its own information, the VW subsidiary is investing a high double-digit million sum in the new Cellforce Group for a majority stake of a good 80 percent.
