Volkswagen Recorded Drop In Sales Last Month
After a slight stabilization in September, the German carmaker Volkswagen recorded another drop in sales last month.
Volkswagen said that it sold 903,200 cars worldwide in October, a decrease of 4.9% compared to October last year. In September, the company recorded an increase in sales of 3.3%.
October's development was largely due to weaker sales in the world's largest car market, China. In this market,
Volkswagen sales fell by 3.3%, DPA said.
However, the German carmaker sold significantly fewer cars in North America and Western Europe. In the first case, VW sales decreased by 9.8% and in the second by 6.4%.
Only in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding China and
Hong Kong) did Volkswagen see sales growth. It reached 3.3% in October.
However, the rate of decline in sales in October is still modest compared to market developments since the beginning of the year. This was mainly due to the spring months, when most of the economy was closed for several weeks in the first wave of the pandemic.
According to VW, sales of its vehicles fell by 17.3% year-on-year from January to the end of October.
