In Switzerland, the government was warned against the negative possibilities that may occur in winter. The country was warned to be prepared for "extraordinary scenarios" regarding the energy shortage that is highly likely to occur in winter.
Speaking to Blick newspaper, Fredy Fassler, President of the Association of Local Justice and Police Directors affiliated to the federal government, stated that power outages due to lack of energy could have far-reaching consequences.
Fassler said,
"It is also possible that the heating system will stop working and the streets will be plunged into darkness. In such extraordinary situations, the possibility of looting and protests should not be ruled out."
Stating that he does not think that the energy shortage in the country will go to these points, Fassler emphasized that Switzerland should "prepare for extraordinary scenarios".
Swiss State Television (RTS) reported that the federal government may have to shut down ski lifts and snow equipment in ski resorts to save energy. The news report suggested that the government may instruct cable car operators to reduce their electricity consumption by one-fifth. It was noted that if the government takes such a decision, there is a danger of a decrease in ski tourism and employment in Switzerland.
