The Cac 40, the French Stock Market Index, is composed of 40 multinational companies among the 100 largest by market capitalization in Paris.

The CAC 40 index, known by its acronym Cotation Assistée en Continu, is the most important stock index in France. The Cac 40 paris is calculated as a weighted average of the price value of the stocks of the largest French joint stock companies. The CAC 40 index is calculated once every 30 seconds from 9:00 - 17:30 (CET) using the prices of stocks on the Euronext Paris Exchange (NYSE Euronext Paris area). In addition to the CAC 40 index, the general SBF 250 index is actively traded. The CAC 40 index is the basis for futures traded on the Euronext Paris Exchange and the Euronext LIFFE electronic trading system. Transactions on the CAC 40 index can be executed on the forex market.
