What were the results of the
Chinese vaccine in Brazil? The Chinese Sinovac vaccine has achieved over 50 percent effectiveness in Brazil.
The coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine developed by Chinese
Sinovac Biotech Ltd. was tested in Brazil. In clinical trials conducted in the country, it was reported that the vaccine provided more than 50 percent efficiency.
According to the news in the Bloomberg, Sinovac did not disclose the supporting data for this result found in Brazil. Researchers did not disclose supporting data on the vaccine at the company's request. It was stated that this is a development that may cause delay in the delivery of the vaccine.
13,000 people participated in Sinovac's experiments in Brazil. Brazilian Bhutantan Institute and Sao Paulo state officials stated that the vaccine is "safe and effective". Regarding the issue, Brazilian Health Minister Jean Gorinchteyn commented:
“Our goal was to achieve more than 50 percent efficiency. A vaccine that has achieved this rate is a reason for celebration.”
The head of the Bhutanese Institute, Dimas Covas, explained that there were no severe cases of Covid-19 in the vaccine group and that the side effect was moderate pain at the injection site. Covas stated that the vaccine efficiency was above the rate required by the Brazilian authorities. Covas also reminded that the results will be subject to a 15-day review process by Sinovac. According to Covas, if this period can be passed faster, Brazil's plan to implement the vaccine on January 25 could be possible.
The 50 percent efficiency rate represents the minimum standard set by the US regulators for emergency Covid-19 vaccines. Experiments of Sinovac vaccine continues in Turkey.
