When Will Earnings Reports Be Released?
This week will be one of the busy weeks when some of the heavily loaded companies in the S&P 500 are ready to report fourth quarter earnings results.
According to an analysis by FactSet, the results reported as of Friday are that 86 percent of the S&P 500 companies posted a surprisingly positive fourth quarter earnings report. We assume that the vast majority of S&P 500 companies meet this percentage, although actual results still need to be included in this table. The positive gain in the period since FactSet began tracking the index in 2008 will represent the largest percentage reported.
Earnings Are Better Than Expected
Earnings are better than expected. However, it is still lower than the fourth quarter of the previous year. According to FactSet, it is reported that S&P 500 companies are moving towards a decrease in their profits compared to the fourth quarter of last year.
Some of the Big Tech companies that reported the results this week are probably taking advantage of last year's home-stay phenomenon.
