Xiaomi Entered the US Blacklist
Xiaomi entered the US blacklist. The
Trump administration continues to pressure China.
US President Donald Trump has added a new sanction against China five days before the end of his term of office. The Trump administration blacklisted 10 Chinese companies on the grounds that they threaten national security and have links with the Chinese military. Among those that were blacklisted, the giant smartphone manufacturer company Xiaomi was also included.
Following this development, Xiaomi's shares lost 11 percent in value.
The US was imposing sanctions on Chinese companies on the grounds that it threatened its national security, but it was an unexpected decision to blacklist Xiaomi. Commenting on the issue, China Merchants Securities Analyst Kevin Chen said, “This news was really surprising for me.”
The US Department of Defense has added Xiaomi to the list as one of the 9 companies linked to the Chinese military. This means that US investors will not be able to buy the securities of these companies.
Other companies blacklisted include Gowin Semiconductor, Luokong Technology Group, Global Tone Communication Technology and Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment.
Unless the ban is canceled, the possibility of
Xiaomi being removed from the US stock markets and deleted from the global indicator indices is being discussed.
