Wednesday marked one of Bitcoin’s most powerful rallies in weeks. Within the span of just over 12 hours, the price of the leading cryptocurrency rocketed from $7,700 to a high of $9,000 — a dollar gain of $1,300 and a percentage gain of 17%. Bitcoin's price appears to be rallying ahead of "the halving." The halving will cut the popular cryptocurrency's mining rewards in half, in a process designed to slow the rate of new bitcoin creation until its maximum supply is reached. (Only approximately 21 million bitcoins will ever be created.) The halving should help to highlight bitcoin's attractive supply dynamics -- at a time when governments around the world are printing their fiat currencies at an unprecedented rate.
