The December 2021 results of the "Hunger and Poverty Line Survey" conducted by
Türk-İş every month in order to reveal the living conditions of the employees and determine the impact of the price changes on the family
budget, have been announced.
According to the research, the "hunger line," which expresses the amount of food expenditure that a family of four should make in order to have a healthy, balanced, and adequate diet this month, was 4,013 liras.
The "poverty line", which corresponds to the total amount of other compulsory expenditures for food and clothing, housing, transportation, education, health and similar needs, was calculated as 13,073 liras.
While the "cost of living" of a single employee is 4,926 liras per month, the minimum amount of food for a family of four living in Ankara should have increased by 25.75 percent compared to the previous month.
The kilogram price of meat increased by an average of 30 liras
There was a high increase in the product range of all brands, especially milk. The one-month increase in milk was calculated to be 35.3%.The additional burden on the family
budget due to the price increases arising from this product group was 135 liras.
While the price of minced meat, cubed meat, and chicken increased, the price of only beef liver among offal products increased. The price of ground beef and cubed meat per kilogram increased by an average of 30 lira (26.1 percent). The increase in chicken was 17.1 percent. Fish also took its share of the price increases, and the average kilogram price increased.
The grain of the egg increased from 1.30 lira to 1.80 lira. While the imported pulses in particular were more expensive in parallel with the increase in the exchange rate, the decrease in the foreign exchange did not reflect on the product prices.
Fresh vegetables and fruit prices also increased on average this month. The rise in the price of potatoes, which are primarily used in the kitchen, drew attention, and its kilogram price increased to 7 liras. The average fruit-vegetable kilogram price increased this month and became 8.69 liras.
The expected price increase in bread was officially realized. The new price of bread, whose 200 grams were sold at 1.75 liras in Ankara, was 2.25 liras, and the kilogram price was 11.25 liras. Thus, the rate of increase was calculated as 28.57 percent. While the prices of pasta and semolina did not change, the price of rice increased slightly.
The price of butter and margarine rose. The price of a liter of sunflower oil rose 51.90 liras this month. The price of olive oil has also increased. The price of black and green olives did not change much on average.
Sugar prices increased by 57.8 percent, but salt prices remained unchanged. The price of molasses and jam increased; the price of honey did not change. The price of tea increased again this month, albeit at a low rate. The price of tomato paste remained the same.
