Amazon has shut down Parler
Amazon has shut down the controversial intelligence service Parler. The retail giant deleted the service, which is mainly used by radical Trump supporters, from its cloud service Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the morning. This means that Parler will be temporarily offline at least until a new technical provider has been found, wrote the founder of the network, John Matz. After the violent storm on the US Capitol, the tech giants Google and Apple Parler had already banned from their app stores.
In a letter to Parler,
Amazon wrote that the network had not acted fast enough against content on the platform that incited violence. "We have seen a steady increase in this content on your website, all of which violate our Terms of Use," the letter said. In view of the riots in the
US Capitol on Wednesday there is a "serious risk that this type of content will incite further violence."
According to Parler founder Matz, Parler could now be unavailable for "up to a week" until another cloud provider is found. "We will do our best to switch to a new provider immediately," he wrote on his profile.
