Hyundai and Apple plan to sign a partnership agreement by March
South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor and the American technology concern Apple plan to sign a partnership agreement in the development of autonomous electric vehicles by March this year.
Production is expected to begin in the United States in 2024, Reuters reports, referring to Sunday's issue of the Korean daily IT News.
The article follows a statement on Friday, January 8, that Hyundai is already negotiating with Apple on the development of an autonomous electric car and its launch in 2027. This report raised Hyundai's share prices by almost 20 percent.
Hyundai declined to comment on Sunday's article, reiterating a previous statement that it had received requests for cooperation in the development of autonomous electric cars from several companies. Apple did not comment on the report either.
In the updated version of its article, IT News downloaded details, such as the location and volume of production, as well as the time frame for signing the agreement. The original version of the article stated that the new model was to be produced at the
Kia Motors plant in Georgia, USA, and from 2024 onwards, 100,000 vehicles were to be produced annually. The total capacity was to reach 400,000 cars.
According to this version, Hyundai and
Apple allegedly wanted to launch the so-called beta version of this vehicle next year.
Reuters reported in December that Apple is entering the autonomous automotive technology market and would like to develop a personal vehicle with its own groundbreaking battery technology as early as 2024.
