Audi will partially stop production next week due to the shortage of chips
The shortage of chips in the auto industry also affects the manufacturer Audi. As the "Augsburger Allgemeine" reported, Audi will partially stop production next week due to problems with the supply of semiconductors at the Neckarsulm location. "Due to missing semiconductor parts, the A6 and A7 models will not be produced in the week from April 26th to 30th," the company told the newspaper. The employees concerned are therefore on short-time work for this time.
The company also applied for short-time work for the second
German production site in Ingolstadt, the "Augsburger Allgemeine" reported on. However, this does not automatically mean that employees actually go on short-time work.
"The
corona pandemic and the associated semiconductor crisis continue to require our full attention," said Dieter Braun, who is responsible for supply chains at Audi, according to the newspaper. "Since the situation remains serious, bottlenecks can arise again at any time." Which areas will specifically be affected by short-time work will be decided at short notice.
There is currently a shortage of microchips worldwide. Several car manufacturers have already been forced to cut production because of the bottlenecks. Semiconductor components are now essential for the industry: With electronic assistance systems, increasingly networked and autonomous vehicles, and the boom in electric drives, the automotive industry's need for sensors and chips made from these components is increasing enormously.
