Bentley recorded record sales last year despite the pandemic
The British luxury car manufacturer Bentley, which belongs to the Volkswagen Group, recorded record sales last year, despite the pandemic of the new coronavirus, for which it had to close its factory in the spring, during the first blockade.
Last year's results were mainly due to sales in China, which rose sharply by almost 50 percent.
Bentley said on Tuesday that in 2020, its sales had risen to 11,206 from 8,627 cars the previous year. Sales in 2020 increased by two percent.
The plant in northern England did not produce vehicles until seven weeks after the government in London imposed strict blockades to stop the spread of the new
coronavirus.
And for the next nine weeks, production was only running at half capacity. However, the new models helped the carmaker increase sales last year.
Demand in
China has increased by 48 percent due to the popularity of the new Flying Spur model. And in the US it has increased by four percent. This offset the decline in sales in Europe and the Middle East.
"Looking ahead next year, we remain cautiously optimistic, as many remain uncertain," said Director Adrian Hallmark.
