Three sources familiar with the matter told the Financial Times that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, discussed the meeting at the G-20 meeting in Italy.
US President Joe Biden's government has stated that it wants to send Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman to Beijing.
In addition to these, the Biden government also plans to hold a meeting between Xi Jinping and Joe Biden.
The decision was taken after months of negotiations with its alliances at various summits, including Washington's successful fight against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the G-7 summit to condemn China's behavior.
